E-Commerce Spending Jumps 2.9% in Quarter TwoPosted by Nate in Advertising |
|
According to marketing charts, e-commerce sales have jumped 2.9% in a single quarter. This is a shockingly high and sudden increase. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m starting to look at everything in regards to petrol. Are online consumer purchases increasing due to increasing gas prices? It may not be a sole factor, but there has to be a correlation between increasing gas prices and the jump in internet purchase trends.
What does this mean for digital signage?
As American consumers adjust their spending trends, advertisers will need to react accordingly. Adaptation will be necessary. This may mean finding creative modes for driving customers to the web for their next visit, instead of bringing them back to the store. It could mean an increase in digital signage content quality—something you can never have too much of.
Interestingly, while online sales increased, so did overall sales. During the same period overall retail sales increased by 0.9% (+/- 0.3%) from quarter one. This means that consumers are not adjusting their spending to the market trends, but are just adjusting the location they spend their money. Sad, but it still means OOH advertisers may not be burned too much by the latest spending trends.
